Deputy Sheriff
The Hampshire County Sheriff's Office is accepting
applications for the position of entry level deputy
sheriff.  Applications for employment may be
obtained from the Hampshire County Sheriff's
Office, Monday -  Friday between the hours of 8:00
AM and 4:00 PM, or downloaded from this website.

The last day to submit an application for this
position is
November 30, 2020 @ 4:00 P.M.

Applicants will be notified of the date and time of the
Physical Agility Test at a later date.

Starting salary:
Non-Certified Officers: $30,100.00

Certified Officers: $39,853.00

DEPUTY SHERIFF - JOB DESCRIPTION-
Duties include but are not limited to:  Making preliminary
investigations of criminal offenses; completing necessary
paperwork as required by Sheriff's Department policy
and/or state law; be capable of effectively making
arrests; apprehending and transporting mentally
disturbed persons; transport of prisoners to and from
jail; conduct search warrants; serve civil papers when
necessary; investigate traffic crashes;  court security,
etc..
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education - Must be a high school graduate or must
have obtained a GED or equivalent. (preference
may be given to applicants with college degree)  
Must take and pass the prescribed civil service
examination at entrance level, with a minimum score
of 70%

Experience - No law enforcement experience is
required.  However, preference may be given to
certified law enforcement officers and/or applicants
with prior military experience.
DEPUTY SHERIFF - Physical Agility Test
UPPER BODY STRENGTH - Applicant must be
able to complete 18 properly executed push-ups in
one minute.

MUSCULAR ENDURANCE - Applicants must be
able to complete 27 properly executed sit-ups in
one minute.

AEROBIC POWER -  Applicants must be able to
complete the 1.5 mile run within 15 minutes, 20
seconds.

Special Job Qualifications:

-  Good physical condition - physical exam required
prior to appointment.

-  Must pass a physical agility test prior to
appointment.  The mandatory PAT will be the
required test for entry-level applicants for the
academy.

- Vision: 20-20 corrected in each eye required

- Hearing: No deficiency allowed

- Valid WV driver's license required

- U.S. citizenship required

- Non-certified officers will be required to complete
a 16 week para-military style training  held at WV
State Police Academy in
Insitute, WV.
SPECIAL NOTE:

The Commission may refuse to examine an applicant or
after examination refuse to certify as eligible one, who is
addicted to  the habitual use of intoxicating liquors or
drugs; who is found to lack any of the established
qualification requirements for the position; who is
physically or mentally disabled as to render him unfit for
the performances of the duties of the class; who has
made false statement of material fact in this application;
who has used or attempted to use political pressure or
bribery to secure an advantage in the examination; who
has directly or indirectly obtained information regarding
the examination, to which, as an applicant, he was not
entitled; who has failed to submit their application
correctly or within the prescribed time limits; who has
taken part in the compilation, administration, or
correction of the examination for which he is an
applicant; who has previously been dismissed from a
position in the county for cause or has resigned while
charges for the dismissal for cause were pending; who
has been convicted of a crime; who has willfully violated
the provisions of these rules and regulations; who has
established an unsatisfactory employment or personnel
record as evidenced by reference check of such nature
as to demonstrate unsuitability for employment; who is
not within the age limits prescribed in the class
specifications. An extensive background check will be
conducted on any applicant prior to hiring.
