Over 120 Hampshire County 5th graders recently completed their 10 week D.A.R.E. Program with
Cpl. Jamie Carter of the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office.  The course is once a week for 45
minutes and teaches kids way to make healthy choices in life.  It also deals with current issues
that face students today, such as bullying and internet safety.  This is the fourth consecutive
year that D.A.R.E. has been offered to every 5th grader in the county.

Pictured above are the three elementary schools that recently completed the program, along
with the Essay Contest winners from each school.  As a final part of the program, the students
had the opportunity to write a short essay describing what they learned from being a part of
D.A.R.E., and how they plan to make good decisions in life.

A special thank you goes to the school administrators and the 5th and 7th grade teachers for
allowing the D.A.R.E. Program to be a part of their school.

In addition to the elementary schools, Cpl. Carter also teaches the 7th graders at both county
middle schools.

The final three elementary schools will begin their D.A.R.E. Program with Cpl. Carter within the
next few weeks.
